Brooks has over 24 years of martial training and protection experience. His career began in the United States Marine Corps where he organized, trained, and equipped Marines to provide security for military installations, the president of the United States and his family, as well as visiting heads of state to include: Minister Silvio Berlusconi of Italy, President Pervez Musharraf of Pakistan, President Vladimir Putin of Russia, President Hosni Mubarak of Egypt, King Abdullah II of Jordan, and Prime Minister Tony Blair of the United Kingdom, while serving in various leadership roles to include: Fire Team Leader, Squad Leader, Corporal of the Guard, Reactionary Force Team Commander, and Sergeant of the Guard/Platoon Sergeant. Brooks also served 3 years in the Army National Guard with a Military Police unit. Brooks attended numerous trainings and schools during his military service to include: USMC Basic Training in San Diego, CA; USMC School of Infantry in Camp Pendleton, CA; USMC Security Forces School in Chesapeake, VA; USMC 8th & I Marine Barracks Guard School in Washington D.C; USMC High Risk Personnel Handgun Course in Quantico, VA; and US Army Military Police School in Ft. Hunter Liggett, CA.

​After completing his enlistment with the Marine Corps, Brooks attended a 2-year-long law enforcement skills program to earn an Associate in Applied Science Degree for Law Enforcement before he later earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice. Brooks worked as a county correctional officer before he became a municipal police officer. During his 15-year career as a police officer, Brooks attended numerous trainings and earned various instructor certifications to include: Defensive Tactics Instructor, Handgun Instructor, OC Aerosol Instructor, Taser Instructor, and Field Training Officer.

In addition to the martial arts training he received during his time in the military and while working law enforcement, Brooks has studied Inti Ombak Pencak Silat, Silat Suffian Bela Diri, and Filipino martial arts. Brooks has worked with several private security companies both during and after his employment as a police officer. Brooks started Paladin Training & Protection so he could share his acquired knowledge of tactics and martial skills with others working in high-risk professions so they return home safely each shift.
